Rent prices rose five times faster in 2021 than 2020

The cost of rent is continuing to rise across the U.S.

According to realtor.com's monthly rental report, prices rose five times faster in 2021 than in 2020.

The national median rent for a one-bedroom home in December was $1,600. That's up more than 19% over the year before.

Many large cities saw rent surge even higher.

In miami, the median rent jumped nearly 50% from the year before. Tampa and Orlando both had annual rent growth of 34% or more.
