Annual Medjool Date Festival returns to Yuma
This year marks the first time the event has been held in-person since the COVID-19 pandemic, and people are happy to have it back - 13 On Your Side's Luis Lopez reports
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - One of Yuma’s favorite events made its return Saturday with the annual Medjool Date Festival.
The event was held in Historic Downtown on Main Street. Date farmers and chefs came together to sell and share their variety of Medjool Dates.
For date farmers like Jonathan Fell, getting the festival back a year after it was held virtually due to COVID-19 meant a lot. He’s happy he can share his passion for the fruit with other people.
“I enjoy the festival and telling people and educating them about dates and where they came from," Fell expressed. "...it is a healthy nutrient snack that people can enjoy and get the snack going out and publicize it and have people enjoy the dates.”
The event went on until 5:00 p.m. also featuring an Elvis Presley impersonator, who performed shows throughout the day.
