$147 million to fund San Luis Port Modernization Project

SAN LUIS, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Following the passage of the $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill, several million dollars are coming to fund the San Luis Port of Entry.

$147 million to be exact.

President Biden is expected to sign the bill into law sometime this week.

The Port Modernization Project is expected to break ground in 2022.

The San Luis Port will be renovating its facilities to reduce wait times for pedestrian and cross-border travelers.

“We have for years been tirelessly working to obtain the funding for this project. It is a great feeling to learn that all our hard work has paid off,” said San Luis Mayor Gerardo Sanchez.

“This is a tremendous investment to the City of San Luis and the City of San Luis Rio Colorado and a major investment in the future of our cross-border relationship and economies," Mayor Sanchez added. "Now we have to shift focus to working with our federal partners in the design and construction of this project."

Local senators Mark Kelly and Kyrsten Sinema were responsible for getting this funding included in the bill.
