FDA lays out side effects of third booster shot

(KYMA, KECY) - The side effects of getting a booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine are largely similar to those from a second dose.

However, the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) top vaccine official said on Tuesday that swollen lymph nodes appear to occur more frequently after a third dose.

Doctor Peter Marks, head of FDA's center for biologics evaluation and research, said the higher incidence of swollen lymph nodes is not overly concerning.

He said it's a common side effect with vaccines, and it usually goes away quickly.

He noted that it could interfere with mammograms, so anyone getting a third dose and a mammogram near the same time should check with their doctor.

Marks said the most common side effect by far is feeling tired after the third dose.

Flu-like symptoms are also seen.
