Agents rescue 5 after getting lost in mountains
IMPERIAL, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents rescued five people within 12 hours in separate incidents Monday.
U.S. Border Patrol said the first incident happened on Monday close to 8 a.m. Mexican police notified agents of a woman who was lost in the Jacumba Wilderness region. Agents found the 40-year-old about three hours later. They say the woman had to be carried out of the mountains due to a sprained ankle.
The second incident happened around 9 a.m. east of Calexico. Video surveillance notified agents of an individual struggling to swim across the All-American canal. Agents quickly found the man and rescued him from the water.
A couple of hours later, a dispatch call notified agents of a man left behind by his group and got lost in the mountains. Air and Marine Operations found the man one mile south of Interstate 8.
In the last incident, they received a 911 call from two individuals who were also lost in the mountains. They found them walking and determined they didn't need medical attention.
All five individuals will be processed.
Since October, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have successfully rescued 156 individuals lost or in distress.
