More evacuations ordered as Telegraph Fire grows

(KYMA, KECY) - Deputies continue to evacuate people from their homes for an area threatened by the Telegraph Fire.

The Gila County Sheriff's Office says it now recommends the community both the East and West sides of SR 77 in the El Capitan area southeast of Globe.

Nearly 1,000 firefighters monitored the fire last Sunday. Fire crews say the Telegraph Fire has burned nearly 138 square miles, and it's 76% contained.

The fire has led to the evacuation of more than 2,500 homes across several rural communities. The first fire reported on June 4 destroyed 20 structures.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
