City of El Centro pilots art program to showcase local artists

Think outside the box!

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The City of El Centro welcomes community members and art students to participate in a new Utility Box Art Program designed to showcase local artists. Program organizers hope to in turn provide the community with unexpected art.

When completed, the City intends on installing public art on 20 City-owned utility boxes using vinyl wrap. The Utility Box Art Policy can be found here; while applications may be downloaded here or scanned below.

When making selections for the El Centro Utility Box Public Art Program, the following will be considered:

  • Artistic excellence, innovation and originality
  • Whether the art meets the goal of the project and has a broad appeal
  • Whether the art transforms the project area
  • No political, religious, racist, violent or sexual images

The deadline for art submittals is Friday evening, July 30, at 5.
