YCSO: Man arrested in connection with deadly DUI crash

SOMERTON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma County Sheriff's deputies say a 28-year-old is behind bars in connection with a drunk driving accident that killed one man, and injured three other people.

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) says deputies booked 28-year-old Levi Jesus Martinez-Abril of Yuma on charges of manslaughter, aggravated DUI, causing death by use of vehicle, and three counts of endangerment.

The crash happened just before 5:30 Sunday at Somerton Avenue and County 10th Street. Deputies say Martinez was driving southbound on Somerton Avenue when his Hyundai Sonata crossed the center line and hit a guardrail. Deputies say after that crash, Martinez pulled back onto the road, and hit a Chrysler driving northbound.

Paramedics took the driver of the Chrysler, and two children to Yuma Regional Medical Center. The driver of the Chrysler, 63-year-old Luis Gelabert died at the scene. They also took Martinez and one of his passengers to the hospital. None of them were seriously hurt.

Deputies continue to investigate the accident. They urge anyone with information on this case to call 928-783-4427. You can also submit an anonymous tip at 78-CRIME or on the YCSO website.
