YCSO: Man arrested in connection with deadly DUI crash
SOMERTON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma County Sheriff's deputies say a 28-year-old is behind bars in connection with a drunk driving accident that killed one man, and injured three other people.
The Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) says deputies booked 28-year-old Levi Jesus Martinez-Abril of Yuma on charges of manslaughter, aggravated DUI, causing death by use of vehicle, and three counts of endangerment.
The crash happened just before 5:30 Sunday at Somerton Avenue and County 10th Street. Deputies say Martinez was driving southbound on Somerton Avenue when his Hyundai Sonata crossed the center line and hit a guardrail. Deputies say after that crash, Martinez pulled back onto the road, and hit a Chrysler driving northbound.
Paramedics took the driver of the Chrysler, and two children to Yuma Regional Medical Center. The driver of the Chrysler, 63-year-old Luis Gelabert died at the scene. They also took Martinez and one of his passengers to the hospital. None of them were seriously hurt.
