Gov. Gavin Newsom to announce new efforts to get more Californians vaccinated

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - California Governor Gavin Newsom will announce Thursday new efforts from the state to encourage more Californians to get vaccinated.

Gov. Newsom said it's important for those in communities hit hardest by the pandemic to get vaccinated as the state continues to reopen in June safely.

According to government officials, more than 36 million COVID vaccines have been administered. They estimate that number to go up as the eligibility has expanded to 12-15 years old.

They estimate 12 million people who are elegible for the vaccine have not received it.
