USBP: Man arrested for smuggling 10 migrants inside truck

SALTON CITY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - A 21-year-old was arrested after being accused of smuggling a group of 10 undocumented immigrants last Thursday.

U.S. Border Patrol said the incident happened in the afternoon at the Highway 86 immigration checkpoint. Agents sent a man to secondary after a canine alerted to the vehicle's rear.

During secondary inspection, agents checked the utility cargo box and found nine undocumented immigrants locked inside with no safety restraints and no ventilation. Agents say one individual needed medical attention. They say the passenger was also illegally present in the U.S.

The driver faces human smuggling charges and expelled the other individuals back to Mexico.
