U.S. Customs and Border Protection

Border Patrol agents arrested a 32-year-old woman for attempting to smuggle pills

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A Border Patrol canine sniffs out a sandwich bag containing fentanyl pills hidden in a suitcase Thursday morning.

U.S. Border Patrol said the incident happened at the immigration checkpoint on Highway 78 near Blythe, Calif. when agents sent the driver of a Toyota Prius to secondary following a canine alert.

The four-vehicle occupants from Kingman, Ariz., said they were driving from Calexico to pick up the fourth individual and headed back to Kingman. While searching the vehicle, agents found a bag containing 77 grams of fentanyl pills worth $1,800.

They say the pills found in a suitcase belonged to the 32-year-old woman that was picked up in Calexico.

Agents arrested the woman and seized the drugs.
