Driver dies after car falls into canal

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Deputies say a man is dead after losing control of his vehicle and fell into the canal last Sunday morning.

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office says it received reports of a vehicle submerged in a canal at the 4700 block of E. County 2nd Street.

Investigations revealed that a 1997 black Honda Accord was traveling westbound on County 2nd Street east of Avenue 44E when he lost control and drove off the south side of the canal bank.

YCSO says the driver of the Honda, 52-year-old Jaime Rodriguez from Roll, was pronounced dead at the scene after he was found one mile west of the vehicle in the canal.

Deputies say Rodriguez's next of kin has been notified. They say impairment appears to be a factor in this collision.
