Block party supplies free food, administers vaccines

Open to first and second-shot vaccinations

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The City of Somerton plans to host a vaccine block party outside of the old City Hall on N. State Avenue Friday, May 7, with vaccination administrations from 9 a.m. to 7.pm. and free food samples from 5-10 p.m.

Registrations begin Wednesday, May 5, and are open to qualifying Somerton residents looking to receive their first or second coronavirus vaccine.

Special Events Coordinator for the City of Somerton, Brissa Garcia says, "We invite you to come next week; and Wednesday, May 5, so you can get preregistered." Somerton residents may register in person at Somerton City Hall, 143 N. State Ave.

If seeking an initial dose, City administration says patients will be directed to the gymnasium via signs; whereas, second-dose seekers are to be vaccinated with the main gathering.

"We are also going to extend our hours. We're going to be vaccinating Somerton residents from nine in the morning to seven in the afternoon. We are going to have our local businesses giving out free food. All this, on May 7," shares Garcia.

Local business are collaborating with the City to provide attendees with samples during evening festivities.
