K9 sniffs out meth, leads to gun discovery

Arrestees include three out-of-state travelers

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A Border Patrol canine sniffed out a cache of meth and a weapon early Thursday morning at the Highway 78 checkpoint.

Agents say it started around 3:30 a.m. with a the drug-sniffing dog alerting them to an issue with a Ford truck. They say further inspection of the pickup led them a plastic bag in the center console. Agents say that bag contained a half-pound of methamphetamine.

Border Patrol says agents also found a loaded 9 mm handgun in between the center console and front passenger seat, as well as miscellaneous drug paraphernalia.

Agents arrested three people. All are U.S. citizens from Wyoming.
