Body of alleged drowning victim recovered from Arizona lake

Person hopped into water, never came back up

TEMPE, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Tempe Police Department (TPD) confirms authorities have recovered the dead body of an 18-year-old man from Tempe Town Lake.

Detective Natalie Barela says it began around 12:30 a.m. when witnesses saw the 18-year-old jump into the lake on Tuesday. They called for police when he did not resurface.

The TPD Media Relations Unit clarifies Tempe Fire Medical Rescue assisted in the search. Police report it took firefighters about a half hour to recover the dead body.

Investigators have not released the man's identity, nor any additional details on how exactly he drowned.

"This remains an active investigation. We will provide additional information as it becomes available," shares Detective Barela.
