President is now impeached, now what?

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA/KSWT/KECY) - For the 3rd time in the history of the United States, a president has been impeached.

The Senate will hold a trial to determine if Trump will be removed from office that will likely take place in January.

Senate majority leader Mitch Mcconnell is expected to announce an exact date later this week.

What exactly the trial will look like hasn't been set but witnesses can be called and evidence can be presented.

Democrats and Republicans are still sparring over this issue. But in the Republican-controlled Senate -- removing the president is unlikely.

A two-thirds majority is needed to do that -- which means only 34 republicans will have to vote against the articles for trump to stay in office.
