Brett Favre embroiled in Mississippi welfare siphoning scandal

JACKSON, Miss. (KYMA, KECY/CNN) - Former Green Bay Packers star Brett Favre has embroiled himself in a lawsuit that accuses him of siphoning off Mississippi welfare money for the wellbeing of his daughter.

Favre is one of almost three dozen defendants accused of currying favor with the Mississippi Department of Human Services.

Previously, the former director of the organization pled guilty to misspending state welfare. The Mississippi auditor accused Favre of having direct influence as a $5 million renovation had finished at Southern Mississippi University during the same time his daughter played volleyball there.

Another $2 million went to aid research for a drug improving concussion recovery. The problem is: Favre has been a chief investor in that research. According to the Department of Human Services website, recipients of funds must be actively looking for work. Recipients must also be making less than $700 a month.

That's a far different standard than what they gave to Favre and other interested recipients
