Mine blast in Turkey kills two, leaves one trapped

ZONGULDAK, Turkey (CBS, KYMA) - An explosion inside a mine in northern Turkey Friday killed two workers and injured five others, an official said.

Rescuers were trying to reach another worker who was still inside the mine.

The cause of the explosion near the town of Kilimli, in the Black Sea coastal province of Zonguldak, was not immediately known. Medical teams and rescuers were sent to the scene.

Osman Hacibektasoglu, the governor for Zonguldak, told reporters that two of the injured miners were in serious condition, and one of them was being taken to the capital, Ankara, for treatment.

Mine accidents are not uncommon in Turkey. In one of the country's worst mine disasters, a total of 301 people died in 2014 in a fire inside a coal mine in the town of Soma in western Turkey.
