Starbucks puts the breaks on Chipotle takeover rumors

(NBC, KYMA) - If you've been craving pumpkin spice burritos or maybe a chorizo infused latte, we've got bad news for you.

The merger speculation that took fast-foodies to a fever pitch last week was just that, and it's not happening with Starbucks officially putting the brakes on those Chipotle takeover rumors.

A spokesperson for the coffee giant said the company is not pursuing an acquisition of Chipotle Mexican Grill.

The denial follows days of speculation after a report last week said Starbucks was exploring a merger with the burrito chain.

The deal would have been one of the largest ever in restaurant history, and the reports pushed Chipotle shares up while weighing down Starbucks's stocks.

Chipotle did not respond to a request for comment.
