French teachers form human chain in protest

PARIS (CBS, KYMA) - High school and university students, supported by professional organizations and the left-wing opposition, protested again Tuesday, as part of the movement launched three weeks earlier to demand better learning conditions.

Under pressure from the wave of protests that began on September 21 in the Creteil School District, near Paris, the government announced last week the addition of 3,000 teachers for replacements.

The measure has been deemed insufficient by part of the opposition and the student movement.

Students blockading their schools are protesting, in particular, overcrowded classrooms and schedules, a lack of teachers, and are demanding an overhaul or even the elimination of Parcoursup, the university application platform.

While the number of blockades is decreasing, authorities continue to report incidents near some high schools.

On Monday, the Ministry of National Education reported 130 closed schools, compared to 172 on Friday, a decrease of nearly 25%.

Various gatherings took place in Paris, Nantes and other parts of France.
