Grammy-nominated R&B singer Freddie Jackson dies at 70

(NBC, KYMA) - Harlem native and R&B singer Freddie Jackson has died.

Jackson was known for his smooth 80s mega hits like "Rock Me Tonight" and "You Are My Lady," which became one of the most recognizable songs of the time.

His family posted on Instagram that he passed away Monday night, three days after his 70th birthday.

Jackson's silky voice earned him two Grammy nominations and a slate of Platinum and Gold records.

Although no cause of death was provided, Jackson made no secret of the fact that he was suffering with kidney disease, sharing his diagnosis in 2024 when he partnered with the National Kidney Foundation to raise awareness.

Freddie Jackson was 70-years-old.
