Metropolitan Museum of Art will not proceed with designer John Galliano exhibition

(NBC, KYMA) - A new exhibition at Metropolitan Museum of Art will not be moving forward.

According to a statement, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and John Galliano announced together that the exhibition, "John Galliano: Horizons," previously scheduled to open in May 2027, will not proceed as planned.

The planned exhibit led to backlash from the Jewish community and beyond due to Galliano's anti-Semitic and racist statements made in the past.

Galliano said he remains "fully accountable for the pain caused by my words in the past, particularly the hurt I caused to the Jewish and Asian communities and I remain deeply sorry for it."

The designer was fired from Christian Dior when a series of racist and antisemitic comments surfaced and went viral, he was also convicted in an antisemitism trial in France.

Galliano would have been only the third living designer to be the subject of a solo show at the Met's Costume Institute.
