116-year-old former mill in Oregon gets demolished

PORTLAND, Ore. (NBC, KYMA) - With a huge blast, a piece of Portland history came crashing down Monday. The 116-year-old former mill has been vacant for a very long time.

A fire two weeks ago gutted the building leaving only the outer masonry and the water tower.

People started gathering hours before the 2:30 p.m. scheduled blast and they didn't leave disappointed.

The removal of the water tower is just the first step in the demolition process.

Crews will dismantle the rest of the structure bit by bit to prevent collapse.
