Guard out of D.C. rally in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (NBC, KYMA) - The D.C. Chapter of the Party for Socialism and Liberation held a demonstration Saturday. Protesting the National Guard's deployment in the district.

Similar protests have taken place around Washington D.C. this week.

The Free D.C. Movement held a rally near the White House on Tuesday. Which marked one year since the National Guard was deployed in the capital.

The Party for Socialism and Liberation wasn't only protesting the guard's deployment but also the cost of that deployment. Projections from the congressional budget office predict it will likely cost taxpayers $600 million.

Protesters say they want their federal taxes to be used for other resources such as education, housing, and healthcare.

The organizations next event is scheduled for Saturday, August 29, 2026.

The National Guard's deployment in Washington D.C. has been extended through inauguration day in 2029.
