Flash flooding strikes city in South Carolina

FOREST ACRES, S.C. (CBS, KYMA) - Excessive rain triggered flash flooding in parts of South Carolina Thursday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) had advised residents to move to higher ground "immediately" as the wet weather hit on Thursday afternoon.

Footage captured shows conditions in Forest Acres, northeast of Columbia, where officials reported the overflowing of Penn Branch Creek and the partial blockage of Brentwood Drive.

Forest Acres Police also helped a driver safely escape flooding on Budon Court, the city said.

"That was a doozy," city officials said on Facebook, noting that the flooding struck during first-day-of-school pick-up time.
