State of emergency declared in Surry County, North Carolina after severe flooding

SURRY COUNTY, N.C. (NBC, KYMA) - A state of emergency has been declared in Surry County, North Carolina, due to severe flooding.

Drone video of the area helps to grasp the full scope of the destruction.

In Mount Airy, mud, debris, and devastation now stretch for miles.

Businesses that took a direct hit can be seen in the arial footage, with people shoveling mud and water, salvaging what they can.

The flooding severely damaged roads, utilities, public facilities, other infrastructure and private property, creating hazardous conditions throughout the city.
