Father of Georgia school shooter sentenced to 15 years in prison

(CNN, KYMA) - The first parent of a school shooter to face their own related murder conviction was sentenced Thursday.

Colin Gray is the father of the Georgia teenager who pleaded guilty to fatally shooting four people and injuring nine others at a high school in September of 2024.

A Georgia judge sentenced Gray to 15 years in prison Thursday.

Prosecutors said he bought his son, Colt, an AR-15 style rifle and left it unsecured, despite warning signs about his son.

The elder Gray was convicted of murder and manslaughter earlier this year in a case challenging the limits of who can be held responsible for school shootings.

Gray had said he bought his son a gun to encourage outdoor interests and father-son bonding.

Gray's attorney said he would appeal his client's first-of-its-kind conviction.

Meanwhile, Colt, 15, was sentenced to life in prison without parole earlier this week.
