Police shoot and kill suspect after deadly vehicle attack on Pride parade in Berlin

BERLIN (NBC, KYMA) - Police in Berlin say the suspect in Saturday's deadly vehicle attack on a pride event was shot and killed Sunday.

Officials release a photo earlier in the day asking for help in locating a man only identified as "Abdul B" in connection to the attack that left one woman dead, and injured 29 others at the Pride event.

The 21-year-old suspect allegedly charged at police with a knife as officers tried to take him into custody.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Berlin officials say he was known to be a "radicalized member of Islamist circles" in the city.

The vehicle used in the attack, which was heavily damaged, was removed from the scene today.

Mourners began leaving flowers at the scene of the attack and a large vigil was held Sunday near the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin honoring the person killed and those injured Saturday night.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and other officials visited the scene in the afternoon to leave flowers and pay their respects to the victims.
