CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Oxygen tank explodes in garbage truck injuring sanitation worker

MILWAUKEE (NBC, KYMA) - A sanitation worker has been hospitalized after an oxygen tank exploded in a garbage truck.

The Milwaukee Department of Public Works released the video showing the explosion. Two workers are loading garbage receptacles into the truck for disposal when something explodes.

Officials say someone improperly disposed of an oxygen tank that was placed in a trash receptacle. The explosion injured one worker throwing him to the ground.

According to authorities, the man has been hospitalized and suffered an eye injury and a concussion.

Officials have emphasized the importance of proper disposal of pressurized canisters, including oxygen and propane tanks, which are strictly forbidden in the trash.

Improper disposal of pressurized canisters can result in fines of up to $5,000.

Milwaukee police are investigating the incident according to The Department of Public Works.
