Bison attack survivor gives an update

(CBS, KYMA) - An update on the man who was attacked by a bison in a wild video that went viral.

65-year-old Carl Isome McDaniel was visiting Yellowstone National Park earlier this month when he had the terrifying encounter. He's speaking out for the first time from his hospital bed.

"We saw the bison and he was down. He wasn't showing aggression or anything like that until it picked a target. That target happened to be me," said McDaniel.

The 65-year-old says he and his grandson were on a walk after dinner when the bison suddenly charged at them, flipping Mcdaniel eight feet into the air.

McDaniel suffered a broken femur and is now recovering from surgery at Bozeman Health in Montana.

This is the second documented bison attack in the park this year. Park officials say bison will defend their space when threatened.
