Five family members die in a Utah flash flood

WAYNE COUNTY, UT. (NBC,KYMA) - Five family members were found dead from a flash flood that caught them near Sunglow campground in Wayne County.

Provo Fire and Rescue announced that Captain Spencer Long and his family have been identified as the deceased family.

The campground is called Sunglow and it's a popular place to go camping, hiking, and rappelling.

"There's some hikes that you can do that you don't need ropes. And then there's some technical canyoneering hikes that are also up there where you need ropes.", said local Wayne County resident Todd Manwill.

Manwill lives next to the campground and says he regularly sees floods here, including one that swept away his parents' garden Thursday, but rarely are they so deadly.

"That's just my only advice. Just kind of watch what's going on because you don't want to be in a slot canyon during a rainstorm.", suggested Manwill.

A daughter who was not with the family is the only survivor.
