CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Floodwater submerge Uvalde streets

UVALDE, Texas (CBS, KYMA) - The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flash flood emergency in Texas' Uvalde County Thursday as up to 20 inches of rain fell across the region over two days.

Footage filmed by Greg Newman shows floodwaters inundating fields and streets in Uvalde.

"This is just insane," Newman says. "Here we have Main Street, completely underwater."

The NWS warned of "catastrophic flooding" in Uvalde, urging residents to "take immediate action" to save their lives.

Residents were also advised by the Uvalde County Office of Emergency Management to shelter in place Thursday and avoid all travel.

"All major highways and many city streets are CLOSED due to flooding and water over the roadway. Please remain at home unless you are in immediate danger or your location is no longer safe," officials said.
