Hazy skies over Boston causing air quality concerns

BOSTON (NBC, KYMA) - Fires in Canada leading to air quality concerns across the Northeast.

The hazy skies in Massachusetts might be picturesque, but for some, especially those with respiratory issues, it is concerning.

The heavy smoke is impacting air quality in multiple states, and it's forecast to swarm over New England through at least Thursday, at times completely blocking out the sun.

The smoke is blowing into the area from Canada, where there are a dozen or so massive fires aligned from north to south just northwest of Lake Superior.

There are some burning in portions of Minnesota, as well.

Most of the smoke is forecast to remain aloft over New England, however, if it does begin moving closer to the surface, air quality will deteriorate quickly.

Officials are urging everyone, but particularly those sensitive groups to be on alert and shorten the amount of time they're active outdoors until the air quality is improved.
