Katie Couric opens up about health diagnosis

NEW YORK (NBC, KYMA) - Katie Couric is opening up about a recent health scare.

The 69-year-old journalist detailed in a July 6 Substack post that she experienced memory loss last month, leading her to be diagnosed with Transient Global Amnesia (TGA).

The discovery came after Couric was taken to the hospital for what was initially thought to be a stroke. An MRI ruled that out and she was admitted for further evaluation.

It was confirmed that she had TGA, a sudden, temporary loss of the ability to form new memories.

The condition is generally reversible, but the cause of it remains unknown.

Couric said her memory returned to normal the day after the incident.
