Fatal ICE shooting protest in Houston

HOUSTON (NBC, KYMA) - A group of protesters gathered near the site of a fatal shooting involving ICE agents Tuesday in Houston.

About 20 protesters chanted and called for justice after a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent fatally shot a man earlier in the day.

They mourned the victim and expressed anger over the Trump Administration's escalating immigration crackdown.

One of the protesters, Rhonda Smith, was an eyewitness to the immediate aftermath of the shooting.

She says she voted for President Donald Trump, but was compelled to take part and voice her outrage over the shooting.

The dead man was identified by officials as Lorenzo Salgado Araujo.

A release from ICE described him as a Mexican national and "illegal alien" who attempted to evade arrest during a "targeted enforcement operation" as federal immigration officers tried to stop the his vehicle.
