Ash blankets ground as wildfire rages in Colorado

PUEBLO, Colo. (CBS, KYMA) - Residents of Pueblo, Colorado, were alarmed to see a layer of ash on the ground as the Aspen Acres Fire raged on June 29.

Footage captured by Grant Hankins shows a layer of ash on a pool cover and the surrounding ground, the sky hazy from smoke, on the day the fire ignited.

"We live 28 miles from where the fire started and everything was covered in ash," Hankins said.

The Aspen Acres Fire was more than 50,100 acres and 0% contained as of Thursday, according to official reports. The fire is one of many raging across Colorado.

The towns of Beulah and Rye in Pueblo County were evacuated on June 29 and remained under mandatory evacuation Wednesday, according to officials.
