CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Lava pours from volcano in Hawaii

KILAUEA, Hawaii (CBS, KYMA) - Lava poured from Kilauea Thursday as Episode 44 of the Hawaiian volcano's eruption began.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the new eruption started at 11:10 a.m., with peak lava fountain reaching approximately 800 feet (240 meters) in height at about 1:00 p.m.

Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park announced the park and nearby roads were closed as conditions remained "hazardous."

Footage released by the USGS Volcanoes shows lava pouring out of the volcano Thursday, sending plumes of smoke skyward.
