Tiger Woods announces he’s stepping away to seek treatment

(CNN, KYMA) - Tiger Woods announced Tuesday he was stepping away to seek treatment after he was involved in a rollover crash in Florida and charged with DUI.

In a statement posted to social media, Woods wrote in part, "I'm committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally."

He also added that a focus on his health would allow him to work towards a "lasting recovery.

This comes after new details emerged about Woods following his arrest last Friday.

According to an arrest affidavit released, the 50-year-old woods appeared lethargic with bloodshot eyes and failed multiple field sobriety exercises at the scene.

Deputies say Woods told them he was looking at his phone and changing the radio when he didn't notice traffic slowing ahead.

Investigators found two hydrocodone pills in his pocket.

Woods reportedly said he hadn't been drinking, but had taken prescription medications earlier that morning.

A breath test showed no alcohol, but he refused a urine test.

The 82-time PGA tour champion now faces DUI-related charges. Court documents reveal Woods has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges. His attorney filed for a waiver of arraignment and demand for a jury trial.

Woods was not injured in the crash, and has had previous crashes, including in 2017 and 2021.
