SAN ANTONIO (CBS, KYMA) - A couple driving down Interstate 410 in San Antonio spotted another vehicle swerving erratically and made a split-second decision to intervene.

Video filmed by passenger Andrea Walker shows an SUV swerving and colliding with a barrier.

As she and her husband Rene Villarreal Albe quickly discussed the situation, they drew close enough to see that the driver appeared to be incapacitated. Villarreal Albe, who was driving, made the decision to intervene and maneuvered in front of the SUV, slowing it to a stop.

"We saw a vehicle swerving and hitting the walls on the highway. We realized that the driver was unconscious, and we stopped the vehicle with our Dodge pickup truck," Walker told Storyful.

According to news reports, the man was experiencing a medical episode. After Villarreal Albe and Walker halted his vehicle, a passing nurse stopped to render aid before he was transported to a hospital.

The condition of the man was unknown at the time of writing, but a KSAT report said the man's family were able to get in touch with Walker and Villarreal Albe to thank them.

WABI reported that Villarreal Albe said he had recently fabricated and installed a heavy-duty rear bumper on his truck.
