Victims in Austin, Texas bar shooting identified
AUSTIN, Texas (NBC, KYMA) - The Austin Police Department (APD) has identified the victims who died in a bar shooting Sunday.
Officials say 19-year-old Ryder Harrington and 21-year-old Savitha Shan were killed when the shooting unfolded just outside a popular beer garden in the city's downtown.
14 others were injured, including three people who were taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The suspect, identified as 53-year-old Ndiaga Diagne, was fatally shot by officers.
Officials say they are still working to determine a motive in the shooting, including whether it was an act of terrorism.
"I cannot imagine the grief, pain and loss these families are feeling today, and my heart is with them. Savitha Shan, and Ryder Harrington. To the impacted families that are still waiting for answers," said Chief Lisa Davis with APD. "We are working in tandem with the FBI, conducting numerous interviews and gathering evidence. If you can imagine, we have over 150 witnesses to this event that we are working with the FBI, and we are also investigating an officer involved shooting, as I have committed in the past, in any officer involved shooting."
During the update, Robert Lucas, Chief of Travis County EMS, were asked about Waymo blocking the ambulance.
"In the grand scheme of the impact on the overall incident, we don't believe it had any impact on patient outcomes. I will say that we're already in touch Waymo and the autonomous vehicles to give them our concerns and work with them in order to try to address this moving forward," said Chief Lucas.
