Armed man shot and killed at Mar-a-Lago
PALM BEACH, Fla. (NBC, KYMA) - Florida law enforcement shot and killed an armed man at Mar-a-Lago overnight.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office and U.S. Secret Service say the suspect entered the Florida club's perimeter at around 1:30 a.m. Eastern while reportedly carrying a gas can and shotgun.
Officials say the man was confronted by two agents and a deputy, at which time he put down the gas can and raised the shotgun to a "shooting position."
The agents and deputy fired their weapons, killing the man.
"If you live in the area of the shooting, please check your exterior cameras for last night or this morning. If you see anything that looks suspicious or out of place, please contact us," said Brett Skiles, Special Agent in Charge with the FBI Miami Office.
Officials said no law enforcement officers were injured, and said President Donald Trump was not at Mar-a-Lago during that time.
The suspect's identity has not been released yet pending next of kin notifications, but two law enforcement sources identified him to NBC News as Austin Tucker Martin, a 21-year-old man from North Carolina.
A man with that name was reported missing, according to a Facebook post from his mother Sunday.
However, police declined to comment to NBC News when asked whether Martin was still considered a missing person.
