Street in South Carolina named after Rev. Jesse Jackson

GREENVILLE, S.C. (NBC, KYMA) - An honor for the late Jesse Jackson is now visible on the neighborhood street where he grew up in Greenville, South Carolina.

A portion of Haynie Street will now be dedicated to Rev. Jackson. The South Carolina Department of Transportation put the signs up this week.

The dedication came as a surprise, as well as a fitting honor, to some of the residents, like Kathy Moore, who have lived on that street for decades.

"I am so proud that they have decided to name this street Jesse Jackson, you know, because we do need to, you know, he was a great, I would call him civil rights leader, a minister, you know, and it's very good to look up and to have, you know, so I think it's wonderful. I really truly do," Moore expressed.

Some neighbors expressed gratitude knowing Jackson's life will be remembered in this way, and some said it's the least Greenville can do to commemorate him.
