Storm tears through North Carolina suburbs

MATTHEWS, N.C. (CBS, KYMA) - Officials urged North Carolina residents to seek shelter as a line of storms packing strong wind gusts moved across the state Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the line of "gusty showers" had winds up to 50 mph.

"Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects," the NWS warned. "If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building."

Footage shows the line moving across Matthews, southeast of Charlotte, Friday morning.

"10:37AM a strong line of storms came through Matthews, North Carolina bringing heavy rain and winds," said Andrew Parker, in a post on X.
