Stowaway raccoon survives transatlantic journey in car

(CBS, KYMA) - Customs officers in Grodno, Belarus, discovered an unexpected stowaway on January 14: a raccoon who traveled across the Atlantic Ocean from the United States hidden inside a car being transported in a sea container.

The animal, found resting on a vehicle's dashboard, was taken to the Oshmyany District Veterinary Station for a 72-hour quarantine period, the Customs Authorities of Belarus said.

The raccoon, named Senya, developed a particular fondness for chicken eggs after its long and presumably hungry journey.

After veterinary procedures and health assessments, officials will decide whether to release Senya into the Naliboki Forest or place him at the Grodno Zoo.
