Medical experts offer solutions for a healthy new year

(CBS, KYMA) - Are you ready to ring in 2026 on a healthy note? Then, medical experts are offering solutions to ensure a healthy new year.

A recent survey finds one of the most common New Year's Resolutions is living a healthier lifestyle, often including better eating and exercise.

One of the best ways to get started on that journey is building a medical team, with healthcare professionals saying patients need to make sure their primary care provider is the right one for them.

"I think people should be empowered to fire their health care provider if they're not getting the kind of care and communication they need...When the clinician is in the room, are they really in the room? And I think that's just so important for people that, you know, they deserve that," said Dr. Jon LaPook, CBS News Chief Medical Correspondent.

Dr. LaPook also says mental health should not be overlooked when it comes to healthier living, and recommends a balance of self-care and maintaining social connections.
