Powerball jackpot climbs to $1.7 billion

(NBC, KYMA) - Someone could be unwrapping a very big gift this Christmas Eve as the Powerball jackpot is climbing again.

No one matched all six numbers in Monday night's Powerball drawing, pushing the jackpot to an estimated $1.7 billion for Wednesday night. The cash option is valued at about $781 million.

The prize now ranks as the fourth-largest Powerball jackpot ever and one of the biggest in U.S. lottery history.

Powerball jackpots have been won on Christmas Eve once before and four times on Christmas Fay.

The jackpot rolled after the numbers 3, 18, 36, 41, 54, and Powerball 7 were drawn.

While there was no grand prize winner, lottery officials say plenty of tickets still won. Nationwide, nine tickets matched all five white balls, each winning $1 million, with winners across eight states.
