Shipping containers carrying bananas wash up on beach in the U.K.

SELSY, U.K. (CBS, KYMA) - Shipping containers mostly carrying bananas were seen washed ashore on Selsey beach on England's south coast Sunday after falling off a cargo ship the day before, HM Coastguard said.

A total of 16 containers fell off the cargo ship Baltic Klipper, with eight carrying bananas, two carrying plantains, one carrying avocados, and the other five being empty, the Coastguard said.

Video recorded by TikTok user @carolynnking999 shows one of the containers with the caption reading, "When containers fall off the ship, they have to wash up somewhere."

Other video verified by Storyful showed stray green bananas on a beach in Selsey.

West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service cordoned off the area on Sunday, and urged people not to approach the containers.

In an update posted Monday, the Coastguard said 11 of the 16 containers had washed ashore in West Sussex.
