Sled dogs rescued from trailer ‘split in half’ on Minnesota highway
MINNETONKA, Minn. (CBS, KYMA) - Nine huskies that are part of a dog-sledding team were rescued when the trailer they were traveling in "split in half" during a one-vehicle crash in wintry conditions in Minnesota.
Footage released by the Minnetonka Police Department shows dashcam video of the dogs being taken to safety on Interstate 494 on Saturday, November 29.
Local dogsled ride service Silent Run Adventures, which owns the huskies, said they were headed to an event when the trailer hit a slick patch, slid, overturned, and broke apart.
"One dog was loose running all over the freeway…on an overpass," they said. "Nothing worse than scared huskies on the freeway. Trailer is totaled…God bless Minnesota State Patrol and the Minnetonka Police."
"It was a terrifying experience, and while the dog trailer was completely totaled, we're so grateful that everyone - two-legged and four-legged - is safe and sound," they said in an update the following day.
There is also a GoFundMe set up to help the organization. The GoFundMe has a goal of $4,500, with more than $3,000 raised so far. If anyone would like to donate to the GoFundMe, click here.
The police department confirmed there were no injuries in the crash.
