Larry Summers resigns from OpenAI’s Board of Directors

(NBC, KYMA) - Larry Summers has resigned from OpenAI's Board of Directors amid scrutiny of his connection to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The former Treasury Secretary and ex-president of Harvard University has been in the national spotlight since the release of 20,000 documents from Epstein's estate, including extensive email exchanges between Summers and Epstein.

Summers joined OpenAI's board in November 2023.

The ChatGPT parent company's board of directors said it respected Summers' decision to resign.

Summers has not been accused of participating in any of Epstein's alleged criminal behavior, but the e-mails show Summers and Epstein communicated as recently as 2019, more than a decade after the financier pleaded guilty to soliciting prostitution from a minor.
